Sikkim is a state of India located in the northeastern part of the country. It has a geographical area of 7096 sq. km. It is bordered by Tibet on the North; Bhutan on the East; West Bengal on the South and Nepal on the West.
The state was formed on 26 April 1975. It has 4 districts and its capital is Gangtok. It has many snow-covered peaks including the world’s third highest peak: Kanchenjunga, a major tourist attraction of the state. The state also has sanctuaries, national parks and lakes. According to the 2011 census, the population of Sikkim is 610577.
The climate of the state is suitable for agricultural and horticultural products. It produces many crops like rice, wheat, maize, barley, pea, etc. The state is the largest producer of large cardamom; accounts for the more than 80% of India’s total production. The state is also rich exotic flora that includes flowing plants, rare orchids, medicinal plants and more.
